On March 9 a reception will be hosted by YAM (Youth Art Month) in honor of those students from all over the state that will have their art showcased in the Texas State Capitol in Austin.
Those selected include junior Jaycob Davila.
“Art has always been kind of an outlet for me; I love to create things, but it has always just kind of been a hobby of mine. So it’s really nice to see that doing something I love got me to this point,” Davila said.

Davila said he has always had a sixth sense for art. Growing up he used it as a tool to express himself, but also as just something to do in order to pass the time. He has been drawing since he could pick up a crayon but did not think of it as anything more than something to do till he hit kindergarten.
At that age his teacher noticed he had an act for doodling on his papers, and always drawing something. She encouraged him to continue his fascination with creating things and throughout his grade school education he was set with teachers that added Art to the curriculum. Throughout the years, Davila has attended multiple art contests and won awards, but even though he competes he just loves what he does.
“I like to draw, birds especially, which is what is being showcased, but I have come a long way with art and even after I graduate, I am positive I won’t leave and just forget about it,” Davila said.
Davila intends to take art as an elective in college and wants to continue to do it throughout his life. He has a VASE showcase set for March and fully intends to bring home an award.
