Students kicked of finals week with a special surprise: A Theodore Roosevelt impersonator came to visit campus and interact with students.

Joe Wiegand, a nationally recognized performer who impersonates Roosevelt, made a quick stop in San Antonio on Dec. 17, visiting with the Rotary Club and several other City Year schools before stopping at Roosevelt and Rackspace.
“The highlight though was our wonderful visit to Roosevelt High School. We met students, JROTC cadets, faculty, administrators, clinic staff, and the principal,” Joan Kearl, who serves on the City Year Board of Directors, said.
Teddy visited other schools including Pershing Elementary, named for John Joseph Pershing who was promoted to brigadier general by president Theodore Roosevelt. During his morning visit, Wiegand, in character, spoke to several social studies classes in Rough Rider, telling stories and even stopping to pose for selfies.
“It was fun and he was a really good actor,” junior Aaron Nichols said.
