Youtube hit “Friday” by Rebecca Black has been criticized horribly by millions throughout America. With over 217 thousand likes, over 1.7 million dislikes, both rapidly changing, “Friday” has been declared the “Worst Song Ever” by several blogs, articles, and millions of people.
Patrice Wilson, of Ark Music, wrote the song and Black sang it. Black said, “The other song was about adult love – I haven’t experienced that yet. ‘Friday’ is about hanging out with friends, having fun. I felt like it was my personality in that song.” “Friday has surpassed Justin Bieber’s “Baby” in Youtube dislikes. Several observers have come up with questions to the song and video such as: Who gave these kids driver’s license’? Are any of these kids above the age of 15? What is “fry-eee-day” and does it have any relation to the similarly-pronounced day of the week? And last but not least: “Because we all know we’ve been through this conundrum at some point in our dull and witless lives: which seat can we take?”
“I think it’s a terrible song. Not Rebecca Black herself, but the lyrics don’t make any sense at all,” Jeeana Mullen, Freshman, said.
Black has been criticized by millions and those criticizing her are being criticized. “Friday” has started so much controversy, it’s in the first few links given to you when searching “friday”. Wilson has apologized several times for the song and all of the trouble that has been sent towards Black.
“It’s a good song. I have it on my Ipod,” Marcus Swanson, Sophomore, said.
The song consists of Black having to wake up early for school, eating cereal, everyone rushing around to get where they’re going, and getting to her bus stop. Before Black’s bus gets there, she sees her other 13 year old friends driving by and they convince her to get in the car with them. Black was pressured by her peers? Black then has a problem with figuring out which seat to take. After choosing her seat in the back, she still has to ask which seat she should choose. After this, it’s 7:45 pm and they’re on their way to parties, at 13 years old. Black points out her friend is on her right. Does this mean the girl on her left is not her friend? Is Black being prejudicial? In case you don’t know your days of the week, watch this video. It is stated that there is a school bus in front of them while driving at night when they’re going partying. “We-we-we so excited” Enough said.
“From the renditions I have heard, it sounds ridiculous,” Gurkan Bekar, DATA World Studies and Creative Writing Teacher, said. Bekar has not heard the song yet, but refuses to due to the several negative comments from students.
Several people are wondering who the guy in the car rapping is? The guy is Patrice Wilson, the writer and producer of the song “Friday”. Several people all over the world also are wondering about “thatgirlinpink” in the the music video to the right of Black in the night scene. Her name is “Benni” Cinkle. She’s the same age as Black, 13, and goes to the same school in Southern California. Her and Black are friends in real life and Cinkle was asked if she wanted to be in the video along with several other students. Although, some students chose not to as they preferred their name not to be online.
