GENDER ROLES SHIFTING IN MODERN SOCIETY

In the old days long before equality made its mark on our society, men had been the ones who provided for their family by working hard while the women traditionally stayed home and did housework.
For many years, before and after the gender revolution of the 1970s, a debate has been going on that a girl can do anything a guy can do. Recently, women have stated their independence in growing numbers by proving they can provide for a family or themselves just as well without help from anyone else.
“I think a girl could try to do what a guy can do, but they won’t succeed in everything we do,” Cesar Tijerina, freshmen, said.
In those days long past, women were raised to stay home taking care of the children and doing housework. A lot has changed since then. Women in modern times want to do more with their lives than fill the stereotypical role.
“Everyone should be equal. There shouldn’t be judgment because of race or gender (in any situation),” Cecelia Flores, junior, said.
There are many opinions on what a guy and girl’s role in society should be.
There are still people who feel that the traditional roles of year’s past should still be in place, and others feel its time to turn the page on that way of thinking.
Women traditionally were raised differently years ago, but today’s generation is different, and in a few years the way we view gender roles will have completely changed.
The trend has now shifted to the point that more guys are staying home taking care of kids and doing housework, while a majority of women work away from home. Although, women contributed greatly to war efforts in the past working in factories building munitions, now women are leading the efforts to win on the battlefield directly. Times are definitely changing.
