This last week brought students back to school which also marked the beginning of a new, second semester.
From Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, teachers and students spent their holidays enjoying a two-week winter break.
Before the break, students spent the last week of the first semester taking finals.
Since the first semester ended back in December, grades were due last Monday and report cards containing the final first semester grade went out on Friday of last week.
“My grades were okay, but I plan to do much better in this second semester,” sophomore Victor Carreon said.

With testing dates, students have around 19 weeks of school left. This means that the first semester is 16 weeks while the second is 20, making this semester longer by 4 weeks.
“As a district we decided to have semester exams before holiday breaks,” counselor Michelle Howard said. “This means that unlike other other districts that have even semesters, we said it was more important to have exams than equal semesters.”
A new semester not only means a new year, but it also means new a schedule for a lot of students.
Since last Wednesday about 300 students have received a schedule change.
With EOC exam results coming in, there are also more schedule changes to come.
“I think that the second semester is a new beginning for me to do better in my classes and in my attendance,” sophomore William Gamez said.
