Senior Chubaka Bahindwa was competing against 100 other students at district Saturday. He was going to be third place for most of the race, but all of a sudden five students passed him up.
“I really didn’t feel good that I was in eighth place, but glad I made it to the top ten,” Bahindwa said.
That competitive spirit landed Bahindwa with a time of 17:03:55, solidly in the top ten and qualifying him for regionals Saturday at the National Shooting Range.
“I am really proud of Chubaka’s hard work,” coach Corey Bedell said. “I told him after the run ‘Chubaka this is your mile; keep going, wear your shoes because I can’t wear your shoes and run for you.’”
Bedell wants Chubaka to make it to the state this year.
Also placing at Districts were Victoria Juarez and Blessing Harris, who finished in the top ten in the JV girls division. The JV girls also won third place in the team division. Team members are Vanessa Redix; Victoria Juarez; Blessing Harris; Leslie Ortiz; Rebecca Mangold; Jasmine Villanueva and Ramella Crisostomo. Also, Damian Mendoza finished fourth in the JV boys division.
