Those who have lived or worked in the area a while may remember Rolando’s Super Tacos down the road from Roosevelt High School, located at 5514 Walzem Rd. Though it’s been closed for years now, there are still two other Rolando’s in San Antonio.
They are a distance away from here, but for a great day you could bring family and friends to the other locations where Rolandos are still standing , 93 Shasta Ave. or 919 Hildebrand Ave.

When I pulled up to Rolando’s Super Tacos on Shasta, it’s in a small building that doesn’t look like much from the outside but it was more than decent on the inside. The parking is cramped, and it’s hard to find parking on their property because it’s always busy and full of people coming and going. When I walked into the restaurant it was crowded; the waiters right away took me to a table, sat me down, brought me salsa and corn chips for an appetizer, took my order for drinks and brought me a menu that had variety of food choices for tacos. My waiter was very good at her job, and noted they had fresh choices for all ages. I ordered a super taco with guisada, beans, bacon, potatoes, and cheese because I never had all my favorite foods in huge taco and just saying it made my mouth water.
When I was sitting waiting for my food to come, I was looking around me and watching everybody enjoy their tacos which looked so delicious. All the varieties around me made me more hungry, the potato and egg, bacon, beans, chorizo and cheese taco looked absolutely delicious. While I dazed off to other people’s plates, my own tacos arrived hot, looking good and smelling great like all the other plates that made me so hungry. I had to cut my taco in three pieces to be able to pick it up with my hands. I asked for extra napkins (because you could get messy). When I picked up one piece of my taco the smell was amazing. That first bite and I was in heaven. I tasted my potatoes, beans, guisada, the cheese and the delicious home made tortilla. But they are messy. During that first bite the gravy from the guisada dripped down the side of my hand, but it’s so yummy that I didn’t bother cleaning it till I was done eating it, that’s how great Rolando’s Super Tacos are.
I talked to some other customers while I was there.
“I came to Rolando’s Super Tacos since I was a young girl, it’s good place to go with family and friends,” Lisa said.
“Rolando’s is Famous for their tacos that cover the whole plate, and they are delicious,” Hector said.
