To become a National Merit Semifinalist, you have to be at the top 16,000 scores in the nation on your junior year PSAT.
” On my PSATs I scored a 221, my junior year. Then when I took my actual SATs and scored 2210. It’s pretty funny that I basically scored the same on both tests,” Newton said.
The National Merit status makes them eligible to compete for additional scholarships for college.
