After a big loss in district play, the Roosevelt boys have gotten a taste of how physical and critical teams are and will be throughout the district run. With Madison playing good ball, and Roosevelt having some slip ups that cost them the 42-21 loss, they have lost but will be ready to take on MacArthur while reflecting on the knowledge they gained this past game against Madison.
After last week’s loss to No.4 Madison, the Roosevelt Rough Riders are still ranked No.8 according to San Antonio Express-News sports writer Blake Hurtik. “They were the only team in the Top 10 to lose last week, but we couldn’t be too harsh on the Rough Riders,” Hurtik said in his blog. “They stay at No. 8 because they lost to a quality Top 4 team.”
The Madison Mavericks came prepared to make a statement and give the Rough Riders their first district loss, which they did.
“It was just a district loss. We got beat by a pretty good team,” said head coach Coach Neal Lahue. “It’s time to move on though. Our boys are going to work hard, and not let Madison beat us again when we play MacArthur.”
It seems that by the look of stats and key players in the 26-5A district division, that there will be very challenging and interesting games played on the gridiron as the season comes to an end. In the remainder of district play, Roosevelt has many contenders still to play, according to Coach Lahue.
“Everybody left on the schedule are still our contenders. We still have big teams to play,” said Lahue. “We will take it one game at a time.”
“The MacArthur Brahmas are big and physical, with excellent players,” said Lahue. ” They are coming to play us this week after losing three games in a row.”
As No.8 Roosevelt goes out on the gridiron to play the Brahmas at 7:30, Friday, October 12, 2012 it seems as if all hype is going towards the Roosevelt Rough Riders according to the High School Fearless Forecasters, as all three sports writers from the San Antonio Express-News voted for the Velt Boys.
