Due to the on going drug war in Mexico, the U.S. State Department warned Americans to stay out of Mexico until the conflicts were settled. Sadly, one couple did not take that advice seriously. On Sept. 30th, Tiffany and David Hartley were enjoying jet skiing on Lake Falcon, near the Texas – Mexican border, when suddenly, three boats full of Mexican pirates started chasing the couple. Tiffany Hartley said that, during the chase, the pirates shot her husband in the back of the head. While trying to dodge bullets, she jumped in the water and tried dragging him with her but did not succeed.
Because the incident happened on Mexican waters, the U.S police can’t investigate. The Mexican investigators are now questioning if Hartley was even telling the truth. There isn’t a stitch of evidence that proves a crime occurred; neither Hartley’s body nor his jet ski can be found. In response to the investigator’s claim, Mrs. Hartley said that she thinks the police aren’t even looking for her husband.
A global intelligence company released a report that said the pirates believed that Mr. Hartley was a part of a rival gulf cartel surveillance team. The fact that the Hartley’s recently moved from Mexico to McAllen, Texas, and also that the Hartley’s were still driving around with Mexican license plates could of played a big part in why that was believed. The report also states that once Mr. Hartley was identified as an American, his body was destroyed. It goes on to say that because the low ranked cartel officers killed Mr. Hartley, the boss now has the officers on his “hit list.” The lead investigator on the case, Rolando Armando Flores Villegas, was found beheaded. Some say this is a warning for the investigators not to continue the search for Mr. Hartley’s body. Although the search is still going on, Hartley’s body has not yet been found.
