The Super Bowl is one of the biggest sporting events in the world along with the World Cup of soccer and the Olympics.
The Superbowl is watched by millions around the world and the two teams that played last year were both eliminated in the playoffs (the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers). Sports fans will witness two different conference champions play for the title.
“It will be fun any of these four teams can win it all,” Brady Wyatt, boys basketball assistant coach, said.
The New England Patriots defeated the Balimore Ravens on Jan. 22 for the American Football Conference championship and the New York Giants beat the San Francisco 49ers to win the National Football Conference Championship setting the stage for a rematch Super Bowl.
Both the Patriots and Giants have explosive offensives and have a lot of history in the Super Bowl.
Sophomore Edward Lagunas is excited that the Patriots are back in the Super Bowl, while other Roosevelt students are backing the Giants in the big game.
The 49ers hadn’t been to the NFC championship since the days of quarterback Steve Young in the 90s and the Ravens were hoping to make a return to the Super Bowl after winning it 12 years ago. Both teams will have to watch it at home. The Patriots have dominated this decade in the National Football League with titles, but lost to the Giants in their last appearance.
“The Super Bowl will be great this year. Giants can have another impossible season and win it all,” Bo Serros, junior, said.
