Talk about a bad home, 23-year-old Carlina White, grown up as Nejdra Nance, was finally found after being kidnapped from Harlem Hospital at 19 days old by a convict.
Kidnapped from Harlem Hospital at 19 days old by a woman wearing a nurse uniform, Carlina White grew up in Bridgeport, Conn., and moved to Atlanta, Georgia just last year. Authorities are still wondering if The woman she was raised by, Ann Pettway, is the woman who kidnapped her or if White was given to Pettway by another woman.
“They think it was Ann who took the baby. I just really want two minutes with Ann Pettway. If she was in front of me, I would ask her, ‘Why? Why? Why?'” Carl Tyson, Carlina’s birth father, said, after speaking with police.
Pettway has not been charged for the kidnapping case. Although, Pettway has been under probation due to several crimes since 1987 from conviction of attempted embezzlement and was not allowed to leave North Carolina.
“She [Pettway] kind of ripped our whole family apart, and I had to watch that my whole life with my mom. It’s kind of crazy,” Sydney Reynolds, Carlina’s half-brother, said.
When Pettway was asked about her daughter at work, she acted odd about it. Pettway loved to talk about her 13-year-old son, though stayed quiet about her older daughter.
“Whenever I asked her about her daughter, she got kind of weird, like she didn’t want to talk about her,” a co-worker from Bell’s Carpet and Floors in Raleigh, where Pettway worked, said.
All the family White grew up with said she was a great kid and had a wonderful family. “She may be with her real family now, but she’s always a part of our family no matter what,” a relative of Pettway said.
Carlina White solved her own kidnapping case that took police 23 years to solve by tracking down her birth parents through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. White found her own way home and gets to know her real family.
