Until recently, students in IT Classes were unable to take the test to be certified in the area of Networking and Cyber Security during the summer because of the exam’s cost and the lack of district funds to pay for them; however, this has now changed.
A few weeks ago, a group of about nine students from the ETA program along with teacher, Josh Beck visited RackSpace.
There, each individual interviewed with a member from the company, explaining why they should earn certification over the summer and based on the interviews, that determined if students received money to take the test.
In the end, the students received a total of $10,000. Now, students interested in taking the tests during the summer will no longer have to worry about paying $300 for the test.
One of the students in the group was Julian Wearden.
“It’s really exciting because I know that I learned that now I am able to take the exams for the professional certifications regardless of whether I get accepted into boot camps because now Mr. Beck and RackSpace can provide for that,” Wearden said.
Students who take and pass the test will be recognized by Rackspace Employers and will then be certified for pre-requisites in the field of Networking and Cyber Security.
“I feel that in the past we had students that couldn’t pursue taking the test and some that could, but now every student that chooses to to take it in the summer can have an opportunity to take it,” Beck said. “It fills in a gap.”
