Horror movie Ouija was released in Oct. 24, 2014 and was put up for a PG-13 crowd, but other wise it has it’s own good qualities. Based on 70 reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, 7 percent of them gave a positive rate with an average score of 3.2/10, and based on 22 reviews on Metacritic, weighted an average score of 38 out of 100 which gave negative rate.
The release date for DVD and Blu-ray is on February 3, 2015 by Amazon, iTunes will be on the same day and will be available for purchase. Redbox and Netflix will be on March 3, 2015. Ouija has been released in five foreign and earned $1.3 million from 234 screens. It became number one in the UK, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In the UK, the film earned $2.2 million on it’s opening weekend which is the second biggest opening weekend for a horror film in 2014 only behind Annabelle with $3.1 million.
Directed by Stiles White and Juliet Snowden, which both had worked on 2005’s BoogyMan and 2009’s Knowing which starred Nicolas Cage and recently The Possession which stars Jeffery Deen.
Out of all of those, Ouija was the worst of them all. Why? Because 1) Poorly written dialogue, 2)Not even close to being scary, and 3) Not as good as the other movies they have written together.
What Ouija lacks more is twist, turns, and mystery, even Annabelle had an even more terrifying and yet a twisted ending. Although, Ouija is based on the actual Hasbro game, it’s not as scary as people think, because of the trailer. Did they make the trailer scarier than the actual movie itself? Maybe…. maybe it’s because of the sound effects and pop ups in the trailer that made it seem like Ouija was scary movie.
Whats good about Ouija is the sound effects and the general pop ups, but the sound effects and the pop ups had made the movie less plain like the poorly written dialogue. At least some of the movie was good, but it seems like the movie was made for Tweens and people who can be easily scared.
Nonetheless, should this movie be recommend to people who obviously love horror movies? No, but this movie best suits Tweens and people who get scared easy.
