Mayor of San Antonio, Ivy R. Taylor met many people who had questions for her at the Molly Pruitt Library on Thursday, November 13. “Meet the Mayor” is a community meeting that will be held in each City Council district for the next few months.

Mayor Taylor is trying to help San Antonio people to improve their education and skill levels, so that they can compete for good jobs and trying to grow jobs in the city.
“I think that if we get a lot of community partners, not just the city of San Antonio, but other people to help, then I think we can make more progress,” Taylor said. “I think that San Antonio’s future is bright and we’ll continue to attract a lot of people to move here. I also think that the key issue for us is going to be educating our citizens so that they can obtain competitive jobs.”
Taylor was a District 2 City Council Representative, and served two and a half terms for a total of five years, so she was familiar with Molly Pruitt Library.
“The last time I was here was a few months ago with Big Brothers and Big Sisters,” Taylor refers to the June 2 graduation of seven “Littles” which was held here at Roosevelt. The graduating students had been matched with either a Big Brother or Big Sister when they were in seventh grade at Ed White middle school.
“They were graduating, so we were eager to celebrate that,” Taylor said.
The students were part of the InspireU workplace mentoring program through Big Brothers Big Sisters and Rackspace.
This time, though, she returned to the library as mayor instead of councilwoman.
“It feels good and it’s fun” Taylor said. “I like meeting people and there is always something different everyday.”
Taylor is unsure that she will overcome all the challenges as a mayor, but she has a lot of focus dialogues about improving skill levels for people so that they can have better jobs.
The public is invited to share comments, questions or concerns with the Mayor. The remaining public library branches and schedules are: Tuesday, Dec. 9, at Semmes Library (District 10); Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 at Forest Hills Library (District 7); Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at Landa Library (District 1); Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at Bazan Library (District 5); Wednesday, March 25, 2015 (District 8); Thursday, March 26, 2015 at Parman Library (District 9); Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at Cortez Library (District 4); Thursday, April 23, 2015 at Guerra Library (District 6).
