On Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, Taylor Swift announced on Yahoo her new album “1989.” Two weeks before on Aug. 8, Swift had uploaded several clues about the special live stream to Yahoo at 5 p.m. The event took place in New York City, where she moved in early August, and was a platform for Swift to perform her new single “Shake It Off.”
It has been three weeks since “1989” has been released on Oct. 27, 2014, and there are still more copies to be sold. “1989” is Swift’s fifth studio album, and it is Swift’s first documented official pop album. With the help of Big Machine Records, one million copies were sold within the first week, making it the largest sales week for an album since 2002 and the first album released this year to sell a million copies.
With “no country strings attached,” Swift has made “1989” based on her birth year. “1989” has 13 songs originally, which include “Shake It Off,” “Out of the Woods,” “Blank Space,” and “Welcome to New York,” which is based on her moving to New York. It also comes with multiple pictures including one used for Swift’s album cover. At Target, they have a deluxe edition, which includes the 13 songs, three exclusive tracks, and three exclusive song writing voice memos.
One of the things to stand out about this album is the polaroid artwork, which Swift said reminds people of the 80s.

“We took the album photos with polaroids,” Swift said on Good Morning America. “It was kind of an accident, so I figured why not make that photo the album cover.”
“Shake It Off” was released and debuted as No.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, becoming Swift’s second number one single in the country. Swift performed “Shake It Off” for the first time live at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 24, 2014. Swift also performed the song at the iHeartRadio Music Festival on Sept. 19.
The “1989” world tour will start in North America and Europe, stopping in Arlington next year in November, before heading to Australia in December 2015.

Swift will also perform at the 2014 American Music Awards on Sunday, Nov. 23. Swift also will perform on “Dick Clarks’s New Year’s Eve with Ryan Seacrest” in 2015, and airs live on Dec. 31, 2014 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Go online to taylorswift.com for more information.
