Today Student Council and Principal Melvin Echard presented counselor Carolyn Lockamy with a check for $1000 to help with her medical costs for her cancer treatment.
Lockamy had surgery for her cancer two weeks ago, and is seeking additional treatment at M.D. Anderson in Houston. The check was a culmination of a campaign named “Love for Lockamy” in her honor with funds coming from faculty, staff, administration and students.

“She’s a wonderful person, loving and caring,” said senior Will Porter. “I would have her as a role model in my life.”
Lockamy is very involved with her two daughters that attend the high school.
“I think it’s great that she’s involved with her daughters a lot,” said Maricella Perez, president of the student council. “It’s terrible she has to go through it and it affects most of us. She’s just so active and helps out a lot.”
Many students and staff feel the same way as she inspires most individuals to stay strong and thrive on her actually having to say a word.
An acquaintance of Lockamy has also experienced the harsh effects of cancer. Edelia Flores, a breast cancer survivor, sympathizes with her on her current situation.
“Ms. Lockamy is a great person in and out of school and cares about everybody,” Flores said.
