The second half of DATA sophomores finally went on their Port A field trip on April 19. Because of the weather, the time was set back from leaving San Antonio at 5:30 a.m. to leaving at 6:30 a.m.
The group that went on April 12 experienced a cool, fun and sunny day, but the second group had a cool and windy front which caused the day to be rearranged and re-planned. The sun did make an appearance and stayed for the rest day after 12:30.
“I had a lot of fun. I liked the charter bus and I really loved going to the beach and collecting sea shells”, DATA sophomore Jacob Dagleish said.
When the arrived in Port A., their first visit was the Marine Science Institute (MSI) and looked around.
Their second visit was the beach. After walking around with the wind blowing and the sun barely appearing, they made their way back to the charter bus to go to the tiers.
The students had a brief lesson on the seaweed and walked on the tiers for a little bit.
Afterwards, they went back to the charter bus again so they could go to a place to eat their lunch and then separate into groups for the rest of the day.
The sophomores were split into three groups. One group went with their Biology teacher, Cynthia Sledd to look and learn about the different ecosystems. Another group went with their Chemistry teacher Valerie Felger to a lab and experimented with different chemicals, as well as water from the gulf to see different reactions. The other group rode the boat USS Katy to gather specimen and fill out their worksheets.
After each group rotated to each station, they were taken back to the beach for about 20 minutes and then headed back home and arrived around 7:30 p.m.
