The Robotics Club and their robots, Disk-o and Ferno, participated in the Alamo Regional Robotics competition on March 27 to the 30. More than 3,000 students and more than 400 volunteers attended. Although the team didn’t place, their robot was the sixth highest scoring robot and are now moving on to the next robotic event this Saturday.
“They did very well and the robots performed exceptionally well and the kids had a great time,” ETA teacher and Robotics club teacher Daniel Sherrill said. “It was challenging but overall, it was a great experience.”
After Alamo Regionals, the robotics team were invited by Rackspace to attend Girls Inc, an organization promoting girls in science and engineering, this Saturday, April 6, at Rackspace. Girls Inc is a part of the 7th Annual Rockit Into The Future Science Festival.
“Girls Inc.’s focus is getting girls involved in engineering, robotics and science, but the whole [robotics] team is going,” Sherrill said. “It’s just a huge science fair exhibition, it’s very interactive. The kids play with the robots set up, there’s going to be food trucks, lots of science projects and telescopes will be set up too.”
This organization is an all day festival and many different companies like Boeing Company, Valero, YMCA, NAVY, and more will be there, setting up exhibits for the students.
“The FRC [First Robot Competition] Varsity team will be demo-ing the robot. And this will be the first time for me, going to this festival,” Stewart Schuetze said. “I’m really excited for this. We have a lot of stuff to do and it’ll be really fun.”
