MODERN TRENDS CHALLENGING TO FOLLOW, MOST WANT TRENDSETTER LABEL

History often repeats itself in a fashion sense from Gouchos in the 18th Century to leg warmers, which were first popularized in the 1980s. What was once old is new again and part of fashion today. There are many who claim to be original with their fashion, but how original they really are is questionable. It is also true, that there are far too many people wanting to be in charge of setting the rules for what’s in and what’s really behind in a fashion sense.
Fashion trends seem to come and go by the day. Many trends that catch on are things from the past with a suttle, slight change for a new generation as seen on the red carpet in Hollywood and in the hallways of high schools across the nation.
“My favorite recent trend was leather. I’m glad to it came back from the dead,” Lindsey Morrison, sophomore, said.
Leather and denim remains popular with most and has come and gone throughout many generations. In modern times, people use leather and denim as a fabric for just about anything from the famous leather jacket that many wear to the denim pants, skirts, shorts, vest and even undergarments that others prefer.
Trends don’t stop just with clothes, even dances seem to come and go with time.
“I was pretty disappointed when Jerkin’ died,” Jason Mock, freshman, said.
Dances are probably one of the most repetitive trends.
Trends are hard to keep up with. I really don’t see the point in it. I just step at my own pace,” Jose Garcia, junior, said.
It’s fair to say that trends are a difficult thing to follow for most people because they change so fast. Then ofcourse, there’s always going to be someone who thought of the “new thing” first and will take credit for it. But those trend followers seem to fall just as quickly as other forms of fashion expression rise up.
For trends to be effective, there has to be leaders in fashion and followers. These days it appears that there’s far more leaders than people willing to follow. If we all decide to take the lead and claim that we are original, then it might be right to say that no one is really a true trendsetter.
