The spring blood drive was held on Feb. 22.
Student Council, sponsors of the blood drive, hoped for 150 students to donate. They didn’t quite meet this; however they exceeded the fall blood drive by five bringing their donations to 125 students for the spring blood drive.
“The turnout was awesome,” Patricia Sewell, Student Council sponsor said. “The support from the campus was amazing.”
They were kept from meeting their goal because some students were rejected due to the fact of low iron in their blood, or didn’t meet the weight requirements, etc.
“I would encourage other students who got rejected, also new comers to try again on April 23 for the last blood drive of the year,” Sewell said.
Blood that is donated remains here for people in the community.
“Everyone needs to understand that this blood drive is for us, South Texas. All it takes to save a life is 3-4 units of blood. It’ll be for somewhere or someone here, our students, our community, for South Texas,” Sewell said.
