The robotics team is also getting their robot ready for this Saturday, Feb. 9, for a “Science Day” at the Witte Museum, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., to show off their robot before competition in March.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, the Robotics club competed against other teams from San Antonio, Austin and Corpus Christi. There were a total of 60 teams, all competing in two leagues, FTL (First Lego Lead) and FTC (First Tech. Challenge).
“We didn’t win anything this year unfortunately, but they all had great attitude and exhibited gracious professionalism, which is the motto of First Robotics,” ETA teacher and Robotics club teacher Daniel Sherrill said.
Upcoming Robotic club events are the Austin Competition on March 2 and the Alamo Regional from March 27 to 30.
“They’ll have a second chance to compete and they’re rebuilding their robot now,” Sherrill said.
Students are currently coming after school every day to work on their robot, except Fridays.
“We’re trying to make it to shoot frisbees and also to build it in a shape to shoot frisbees,” ETA freshman Sebastian Ramirez said.
They also have been selling Valentine heart grams on as a way to raise money for the club and robots. The costs are $2 for one heart made out of mat board and a candy gram, $5 for a personalized heart made out of mat board and candy gram and $7 for for a heart made out of wood and a candy gram. They are available through today at 4 p.m.
