The Model UN (United Nations) delegates took on yet another challenge when they went to MUNSA (Model UN San Antonio) last weekend.
Model UN is a student Mock United Nations, where students discuss real world problems as their corresponding countries to other student delegates. MUNSA’s debate topics ranged from “Addressing the issue of overpopulation and its impacts” and “Assessing growing wealth gaps and identifying possible solutions” to “Discussing Information Jurisdiction Among Developing Networks” and “The Issue of Eliminating Counterfeit Medicines in Nations with Low Standards of Health.”
MUNSA’s Mission statement, ” Model United Nations San Antonio is a non-profit, student-run organization that seeks to create a dynamic learning opportunity for students from the San Antonio area, the state of Texas, the United States of America, and Mexico. As a simulation, MUNSA strives to offer a forum in which academic, leadership, and interpersonal skills are combined to foster student discussion of our world’s most pressing problems.”
Christopher Williams, MUNSA sponsor, said that MUNSA was a success, and that Roosevelt won the award for best school. He also mentioned that TR received two Best Delegate Awards, for David Thai and George Gillette.
“It was very successful. I was able to communicate with my delegation and effectively get my point across and prove myself to be a contender -which as a delegate could be a challenge. I was pleased with my score and glad that I could contribute to TR winning the award for best school,” Kaliegh Carnes said.
