Since football season has ended, color guard has been practicingfor their upcoming competitions and performances, with their first competition show, the Dance Spring Show, on Feb. 15.
“Currently, practice consists of equipment training and dance training. The rest of our time is devoted to learning the choreography and drills for our show,” ETA junior Stormie Hernandez said.
From 7 to 9:30 a.m., color guard is in the auditorium, practicing and practicing for all future competitions with color guard director, Tyler Berget.
“We’re using Ross Copperman’s cover of ‘Bleeding Love’ for competition,” Berget said. “They’re doing pretty well, there’s a lot more progress than last year. But I won’t know exactly how they’re doing until after our competition.”
Their other competitions are on Feb. 23 at Madison High School, March 9 in new Braunfels and on the March 23 is their State Championship competition.
“It’s not all about the tricks or the twirls, not all about the spins or the tosses, though those are important aspects of it, but as a performer, I love feeling the movement of the entire show, the songs, the rhythm and beat, the weight shifts done within the dance aspect of guard, the natural movement of the flag or rifle,” Hernandez said. “All the elements of my movement moving all as one, a team doing all those things as one, is why I love color guard.”
