Basketballs slam against the floor as their owners dribble them down the court. A screaming coach barks out orders on how to improve her players. Basketball season has now begun.
While the girls basketball team didn’t have official tryouts, they have rounded up some great players. Girl’s basketball coach, Sandra Murphy, has high hopes for her teams this year, varsity and freshman alike.
“They are doing very well already. With 10 seniors on the varsity team, I’m sure this year will be excellent,” Murphy said.
Not only is the varsity team phenomenal, so is the freshman team. After having a strong freshman team last year, this year’s team has a strong reputation going into the season.
“So far we have put four freshmen on the JV team. I’m hoping they will do just as well. We will need some new great players for next year to make up for all the ones we are losing this year,” Murphy said.
While the coach wants the best from her teams, the teams themselves are striving to be the best, giving their all, a 110 percent.
“I love the sport. That’s why I’m working so hard to improve my skills for next year, and I am encouraging my teammates to do the same. We are pretty good, but we could be so much better, because we all have some things to work on to be good enough for junior varsity next year,” Meghan Campono, freshman basketball player, said.
While girls are having a great start to the season, the boys are doing just as well with their tryouts that were held on Wed., Oct. 27.
So if you like basketball, you should get out there and watch the games. There is a schedule on the Roosevelt website of when and where the girls and boys freshman, JV, and varsity teams will be playing all season. Hope you can make it and support our basketball teams.
