It’s one of the biggest holidays that so many children look to forward to, and it’s considered to be one of the most interactive days with some major preparation. Yet at school it is far from being considered a holiday, but it should be. Teenagers do not get to dress up because it is considered a distraction and is also a safety issue: if students cannot be recognized, strangers can get on campus in an instant.
Yet why not have the day off like other holidays? It is bad enough because of curfew laws that kids cannot stay out late. Now-a-days, the average trick or treating time is from six to eight, and Halloween shouldn’t lose its spirit. Since Halloween lands on a school day, there should be something after school like a Halloween dance and costume contest, or just straight up have a day off. Of course there are students that do not celebrate Halloween, although they should be happy just with not having to go to school.
It would also benefit teachers and parents. Allowing them time to either spend time with there family or get ready, and teachers could get grades in if they need to. They would have the entire day to work on costumes, get candy, or plan a party. Having a school party as an alternative would be beneficial too. The school can sell tickets for the dance and raise money for the school. Each year over a billion dollars is spent on halloween costumes. Money should never have to go to waste. Having a day off or having a party would ensure a safe fun day and be beneficial to everyone.
