Vicente Fernandez Gomez, 71 years old, is a Mexican artist and producer for more than 45 years and announced that he plans to retire after his tour with his son, Vicente. He has sold over 65 billion albums world wide, with tours in Latin America, Spain and the US. He recently had a concert here in San Antonio on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 8 p.m. at the AT&T center.
Fernandez told a Mexican television station, Televisa, that he plans to end his music career to dedicate himself to his family. The “Ranchera” artist is not only famous for singing, but also for his movies with more than 30, he is known as “Chente” or “El rey de la canción ranchera” (The king of ranchera music). Most people who adore Vicente Fernandez is for the enthusiasm he has when he sings, for the love and spirit he has for music.
Fernandez started his career by singing on the streets. Then he got a contract for CBS Mexico and now he is known as “the most recognizable Mexican singer in the world.” He is doing his last concert and planned to end his tour and his music career in Mexico City on Feb. 17, his birthday.
San Antonio was actually his last concert of his music career, because he canceled the rest of his tour because of a surgery to remove a growth on his liver. As a relief, he does not have cancer, according to the results of the biopsy performed on the lump removed last week from his liver.
There are rumors that he lives here in San Antonio in a ranch and takes cares of his horses. Don’t be surprised if you see him somewhere, because he’s a normal person like everyone else.
