This Tuesday the Lady Rough Riders varsity volleyball team played against Seguin High School. They put up a fight this week, and with a new coach, Lori Ybarra, they hope to have a fantastic season as they head into districts tonight.
“It was challenging because we just played against them [Seguin] Saturday, and we were expecting a greater turnout. District starts this Friday against Lee,” Ybarra, said.
This year she is new to Roosevelt, yet has already been in NEISD working with some of the same students.
“I worked at Krueger Middle School. We were good, but the sophomores I have this year were apart of my best players over there.”
When they had played against Seguin they did not win, but most of the team agrees that it was a matter of support. The lady riders did give it their all and and will give it their all Friday against Lee.
“We did not do good enough, [but] we have the potential. People should come to our games because we are pretty awesome!” senior Valerie Simmons said.
The overall attitude of the players is very strong; they exhibit a positive attitude and take pride in their team. Most of the players this year are confident in how they will do for the season, and are sure they are going to make it into nationals.
“I feel good. We’ve been practicing really hard and should take it in three games,” Captain of varsity volleyball, Junior, Janai Floyd said. ” I’m extremely excited!”
