Students study, hang out, eat, and have some free time to their selves

For a whole 50 minutes, students can eat and study. This is a welcomed change for students who have had much shorter lunch breaks at other schools. Lunch is a time when students can hang out with their friends or just by their selves. Most students can’t wait to go to lunch because of all that free time.
Whether its the A, B, or C lunch period, students have plenty of time for eating and hanging out with friends. They can also catch up on any homework that is due or use the time to study. The fifty minute period is just enough time for students to relax or have fun.
“I like the lunch I have. Most of my friends have my lunch and we play football,” Josh Glascock, D.A.T.A. freshman, said.
Many students fill the courtyard area in a game of football or soccer during the lunch periods. Guys like to play after eating and practice the sport they participate in before or after athletic classes.
“My lunch is pretty good. I get to eat at an earlier time and the people I prefer to hang out with are there,” Atom Ray, D.A.T.A. sophomore, said.
Most students have friends to hang out with and pass the time. Having friends anywhere is a comforting thing for most and having them around every day is even better.
“The lunch I have is really relaxed and some of my friends are there, but not all of them. So, it’s not all that entertaining to me,” Jessely Upham, freshman, said.
Besides finally being able to stop the stomach growling and socialize with friends, lunch isn’t always that great for some because they are not grouped with their friends in the same lunch period. Some students still manage to make the best of the situation.
“I like being able to go to lunch tutoring when I’m done eating. It helps out a lot and it really benefits me,” Ray said.
Not only do students pay attention to free time and friends, but also the food that’s served every day.
Glascock, is one of many students who expressed interest in a wider selection of foods on the menu.
Pizza, hamburgers, pasta, chicken fingers, and other food are served on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday while Wednesday usually consists of enchiladas and/or tacos. Not every student likes the menu arrangement, yet not everyone dislikes it either.
Opinions vary on what the perfect cafeteria experience would look and taste like. Some students express interest in the addition of popular chain restaurants such as Subway, Kentucky Fried Chicken, Pizza Hut, and Starbucks.
“It’s okay, the food. I’m just used to cooking my own,” Ray said.
Although there is much debate as to what should be on the menu in a given school day, most students are pleased with a longer lunch break than they’ve experienced in the past.
“I like it so much better than just 30 minutes. (middle school lunch period) It gives me so much time to eat and be with my friends,” Upham said.
Having lots of time during lunch is liked best by students. Lunch is the perfect time to take a much needed break from the daily schedule and be social and relax.
