The NBA season is a short season and exciting one according to fans. Some of last year’s contenders are now pretenders. The NBA All-Star break has passed and teams are on winning streaks and others are trying to get back on track.
The hottest teams right now are the San Antonio Spurs, Miami Heat, Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers. The NBA season is at its most competitive. Each of the teams barely have any practices with the shortened schedule. The Boston Celtics, a team that has been the favorite the past four years, are under-conditioned much like most of the teams in the league are with the shortened schedule. The Celtics are eighth place in the Eastern Conference. The Spurs (a team who media and analysts said that wouldn’t even contend this year in the division) have proven critics wrong. San Antonio has the second best record in the West and fourth in the NBA.
“NBA season is great. My team is doing great and that’s without one of our best players. I cant wait till after all-star break; that is when teams play harder,” Christopher Wadell, junior, said.
There are also milestones that have been reached by players with franchise records. Tony Parker is the all-time Spurs leader in assists and Kobe Bryant passed Shaq O’Neal for fifth on the all-time scoring list. Paul Pierce passed Larry Bird for second among Celtic all-time scorers. There are also stories in the NBA like Jeremy Lin a player who got cut by Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets got his chance with the Knicks after Knicks guards were injured and Lin had to step up. Lin Scored 25 points and seven assists and then Jeremy Lin started and since then he has averaged 24 points and Knicks are 8-2 with him as starter and he scored a career high 38 points against Lakers. So many story lines and so many teams and players that are wanting to win this 2012 NBA tittle.
“Jeremy Lin is the biggest story of the NBA season the Knicks can go far in the playoffs they have a great point guard and a post and a great scorer they have their own big three”Eric Murphy,junior,said.
The NBA seasons am exciting it has that college basketball atmosphere where you don’t know who is gonna win the game we have had teams be in a 20 point deficit and come back to win the game NBA is getting to be the sport it was in the 1990’s early id 2000’s era with so many great teams and players so many exciting games. It seemed like late 2000’s all its been about is money seems like players lost their love and competitiveness for the game, but this lockout has brought out every players’ competitiveness.
“Players in this era seem to only care about money but the sad thing is that their are so many talented players in this era of NBA,” Rough Rider boys assistant basketball coach Brady Wyatt said.
The first half of the season is over. The season is getting more competitive as teams begin to start fighting for playoff spots in the next month and a half. The NBA is getting back to it’s popularity just like during the Jordan era. NBA playoffs are just around the corner teams are getting ready for April.
