This school year is almost over with just over three months remaining. When the end of May arrives, many sophomores at Roosevelt will say they’ve conquered another year of high school. Currently, those sophomores press on working hard to gain the title of junior.
Students think about the sophomore experience and deal with it differently depending on the individual’s personality. Most sophomores follow advice given to them or blaze their own path. The second year of high school is just another year for some students, but for others it means a lot.
“Tenth grade is more important than ninth grade because you have to be more serious,” Jordan Barchack, E.T.A. sophomore, said. “But, it’s not as important as twelth grade since you don’t have to worry about college as much (at the time).”
Even though it’s only the second year, students compare their sophomore year to their freshman one. Then, couple those two school years with what they hear about being a senior.
“Sophomore year is definitely important because it’s the year you get prepared for your SATs and college applications. So, that way, when you’re going into junior year, you’re already set,” Samantha Pranger, D.A.T.A. sophomore, said.
Getting ready for another, more challenging year of high school is what students are doing day after day. Compared to their freshman year, most students agree the sophomore year isn’t much different.
“This year, I’m more comfortable around everyone than I was last year. But tenth grade is just another year,” Leticia Compean, D.A.T.A. sophomore, said. “But, there is a lot more homework and projects that are more fun than (there were in) ninth grade. So far, it’s one of the best years of being in D.A.T.A.”
Even though it’s only the second year, students like the results so far. For others, the stress is enormous along with feeling confident about school.
“It’s an amazing year because of the people and the teachers. Also, the fact that I’m in E.T.A.,” Barchak said.
Sophomore students follow and give advice from what they’ve learned and others experienced this school year.
