Since the Sarah Pruitt Library became public, many students dedicated to their studies have spent more hours there. With the increased attention towards the library and more visitors including those of the general public, the management staff is faced with increasing challenges.
Often visitors wonder how the library is organized on an everyday basis and how the librarian staff manages to handle it and the constant demands of the public.
“We try to keep it very quiet so that students can come in and be able to study hard when needed, we also keep everything well organized and ready to go when students come in,” Cynthia Saenz, school librarian, said.
With many students just hanging out in the library, especially in the winter, noise level tends to go up and things become a little difficult to handle, but Saenz manages to keep it calm and settled.
“During public hours, we thought it would get hectic but it’s actually pretty calm, people come in and get their work done, the kid section is a little more to handle, but we manage to get through the day. It’s a nice experience and I enjoy every minute of it,” Saenz said.
Saenz is keeping the library resourceful for everyone, students especially.
“I really like to go to the library and do my homework and projects, I have a computer at home but it’s not very quiet at my house, so it’s hard to concentrate. Plus, if I’m doing a project and I need some info I just go straight to the books, resources I don’t have at home.” Elaine Garcia, junior, said.
Saenz, with the help of her assistants, manages the library well according to visitors, and makes it suitable for all Roosevelt High School students.
