AFTER A LONG BREAK, STUDENTS ARE BACK AND WORKING

After almost two weeks of Christmas break, it’s time to get back to school. No more sleeping in, late nights, parties, heavy duty eating or relaxing. Time to get back to work.
Christmas and New Year’s Day are the two holidays that students were given time off to celebrate with their families and/or friends. Time to have fun and chill out. But now school is back and it’s time to start getting back to schedule. Some are pretty good with getting back and others try their best to do so.
“The first day back is just another day to me,” Veronica Verdecia, junior D.A.T.A. student, said. “But I was a little stressed when I thought some homework was due. It wasn’t though.”
That’s very common among students. Sometimes, students are assigned homework over their break and it’s to be turned in the day they get back. Some don’t even remember to do it while others do, last minute or not. But the main thing that students pay attention to the most is reuniting with their friends.
“Sometimes I have a lot of fun during the break, but I love that I get to see my friends again when I come back,” Deja Wilson, sophomore, said.
Not only do they get to see their friends again, but they also get to enjoy another semester of better classes than last semester.
“I took all the classes I didn’t like last semester and this semester I’m taking the ones that I do like so it’ll be pretty good for me,” Verdecia said.
For some, they will be working harder this semester since last semester wasn’t so good for them or their grades.
“I’m ready for the second semester, but I really have no choice,” Giuseppe Crocker, freshman, said. “My grades weren’t so good last semester, so this year I’m going to have them higher.”
Grades are very important, no matter what semester students are in. They get you to the next grade and the better they are, the more likely you are to go somewhere good for college. Taking certain classes helps out too.
“Second semester is a lot better because I already know what’s expected and I really like my new classes,” Verdecia said.
Second semester is the last school year and most of the time, students are really making an effort to get better grades and to pass.
“I’m not nervous, but I am going to work a lot harder with my grades. I’ll do better because I’ve already spent three months getting used to everything,” Crocker said.
Even though second semester has only just begun, times will pass by and soon it’ll be coming to an end. Grades will be even more critical and important and students will be anxious to leave and know if they passed.
“I know I’ll do fine,” Wilson said. “I’m not trying to be too over confident, but as a junior, things get a little easier because you’ve been doing it for so long so I know I’ll pass.”
