With this new year of 2012, which some naysayers believe is the final year due to the expiration of the Mayan calendar, many people want to make this next 12 months a time to remember.
There is much debate as to the pestimistic claims of the world coming to an end, but most feel that humans will be around to celebrate the dawn of the year 2013 despite the negative predictions. The same claims that were made in the year 2000 and yet we are still here.
Let’s see what our Rough Riders have planned and resolved to do to help them make this year worthwhile.
“I am going to try and stop being mean to people, be less blunt about things, be more positive about things, lose weight, work our more, do better in school, stay focused on my school work, and do good on my driving test to get my license,” Savannah Olivarez, junior, said.
While Olivarez has much ahead of her, junior Jasmine Brown only has one thing she looks forward to changing in the new year.
“Me and my junior friend Ale Lira need to stop writing like a darn man,” Brown said.
However, Lira does not think that is the only thing that needs to be fixed.
“I plan to move on, lose weight, be happy, don’t trust too fast, workout, be on top of my school work, give everything my 100 percent, be nice and on time, don’t stay quiet when I believe something is wrong, and live life to the fullest because you only live once,” Lira said.
Lira added that she wants to prepare for college in the new year, take the SAT test, make better grades, and get scholarships. No word on what college she is leaning towards yet after high school.
By the looks of it, our Rough Riders plan to give it their all to make this a good year. A good year not just in their personal life, but in school as well to make their future worthwhile.
