Garza Makes Student, Roosevelt Community Health Priority No. 1

Roosevelt High School nurse Jessica Garza sees and helps kids every day in the clinic. The school nurse’s background and profile says a lot about her character and dedication to her job.
Garza helps those who feel ill and are hurt or injured. She is one of Roosevelt’s three school nurses, grew up in Pearsall, Texas and graduated from Pearsall High School in 2002. She then moved to San Antonio to go to San Antonio College. Growing up, her favorite show was “Family Matters” and now it’s “American Idol”.
“The school nurse is nice I felt sick one time and she let me go in her office to stay warm,” Alessandra Jefferson, junior, said.
Garza was an active student in high school and was in student council. She was also in track and a cheerleader. Now, she is happily married and has a four year old son. Garza has a lot of good things and interesting things about her.
“Ms. Garza is cool she let me know what was wrong with me when i had no idea what was wrong when i felt sick,” Brian Cruz, senior, said.
Garza said that since its winter that her office gets packed with a lot of sick kids. Common issues this time of year include the cold air causing sickness and kids who can have an asthma attack. The nurse said she sees from 40-60 people in her office everyday now, its that time of the year where she sees a lot of kids sick.
“The nurse is nice she is cool and funny I felt sick a few days ago and I was talking to her she told me what was wrong and everything,” Brianna Gutierrez, sophomore, said.
Garza did a lot when she was in high school now she helps the kids who feel ill in high school. So, if you go to Roosevelt and feel ill you know where to go.
