Almost everyone today has a computer in their house, but in the not-so-distant past there were few people that had that luxury or the internet for that matter. Computer have changed in sized since their invention. At one point, computers took up a whole room and now in some cases they fit in the palm of a person’s hand as is the case with the smartphone.
A person can find anything on the internet, no matter what it might be that you’re searching for, there seems to be a website for it. You can really entertain yourself for hours with computers and with a computer camera on the top of your laptop or desktop, people can chat with others all over the world.
Having computers is not all positive, some people are literally addicted to their sources of technology and will sit in front of a screen an entire day. Instead of asking an expert a question, often people resort to the easier route of getting their answers by typing questions into Google.com and trusting that the web site’s answers are always correct. Recently, some of Roosevelt’s students were asked about their computer usage.
“Facebook.com is my favorite part of using my computer because I get to communicate with my friends outside of school,” Mercedes Garza, sophomore, said.
Getting to communicate with friends outside of school as the age of a teenager might be the best thing in the world for many. Instant messaging has been around for 20 years, but recently it has really taken of in popularity amongst teens. Until it is dethroned, Facebook.com will remain the king of social network sites.
“I spend five hours using the computer each day on Facebook.com, because it’s interesting and I get to communicate with my friends, and meet new people,” Andrea Monjoroe, freshman, said.
Mercedes Garza, a sophomore, agreed with Monjoroe that Facebook.com was her favorite website to use on her computer.
Although Facebook.com and other websites do provide entertainment, it is recommended by many health experts to go outside and play every now and then too. With that fact pointed out, teenagers are grateful to have something as an instant cure to boredom.
“It’s a good thing that computers were invented, because technology shows us a lot of different things we might not otherwise know,” Marisol Guerra, freshman, said.
