Texas A&M, University of Texas Football Rivalry May Come To An End

The Texas A&M Aggies and the Texas Longhorns rivalry has been going on for over 100 years. These two may meet for the last time in football for a while, with the next possible meeting being in 2019. A date which would mark the 20th anniversary of the bonfire collapse in College Station, which both schools fans still continue to honor everytime the two schools meet on the gridiron. Negotiations between the two schools are still being worked out on future matchups.
The football rivalry between Texas A&M and UT will come to what most fans hope is only a temporary end after this season. Texas A&M is going to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) next season and UT’s non conference is locked for the next eight years. There is no way for these two longtime rivals can meet in football, at least for a while. So, the game on Thanksgiving Day which is always highly televised will be watched by everyone across nation and maybe even the world.
Being one of the longest rivalries in college, when these two teams meet up it is always a classic game to watch.
“Its sad to see the rivalry end it has been one of the best rivalries to watch in sports,” Ms. Joni Molonavich, Roosevelt chemistry teacher, said.
With Texas A&M going to SEC, all of the SEC fans who live in Texas will be happy when teams like Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Florida go to College Station, Texas, and will be able to watch SEC games. The SEC is the dominant conference and its been proven the last five national champions. So this will be hard for Texas A&M to go to this conference and be successful especially with all this competition.
“Im an SEC guy and for Texas A&M leaving its a plus for me cause instead of driving all the way to Alabama and Auburn I can drive just right up to College Station to watch an SEC game,” Corey Bedele, Roosevelt cross-country and track coach, said.
To sum this all up Thanksgiving day is the game of the year and is bragging rights for Aggies and Longhorns. One of the oldest rivalries in college football and if it is truely the last game then college football fans can look at this rivalry as one of the greatest.
Texas A&M and UT fans will use this game as bragging rights until 2019 since this is one of the biggest games in this rivalries history. Texas A&M and UT no matter if both teams are ranked or if one team is ranked and other isn’t or if both teams are ranked…this is the Super Bowl of Texas because you will get a great game.
“It’s sad but since its the last game its bragging rights for Aggies and Longhorns fans because we wont play each other until 2019,” Mary Phillips, Roosevelt soccer coach, said.
