There are many Roosevelt clubs and organizations that have the mission of making a difference not only for student life, but for people around the world. Health Occupations Students of America (H.O.S.A.) is an organization for people who are interested in the medical field and are dedicated to positive leadership, service, and competition.
“I love H.O.S.A. and am so honored to have been given this opportunity. Most of my spare time is spent on H.O.S.A. and I especially love our members. They are wonderful and always have amazing ideas. H.O.S.A. would be incomplete without them,” Kayla Valazquez, senior, said.
As H.O.S.A. president, Velazquez will most definitely take her organization far according to members who are as passionate about it as she is.
“I feel that H.O.S.A. will help me a great deal in the future with interacting with others for the same purpose. I look forward to conditions, fundraisers, and meetings. The reason I joined H.O.S.A. is because I want to be in the medical field and this looks great to have when I apply for colleges,” Darlene Merlado, sophomore, said.
Merlado also mentioned that it’s not only helpful, but the organization is a lot of fun too with parties and the chance to meet new, interesting people.
Junior Dzire Newton-Jones said that her purpose for joining H.O.S.A. is to learn more about medical programs because she would like to be a ANP in the near future.
“H.O.S.A. is a group of people who want to practice medicine one day and we do many fundraisers as well as getting community service hours for recycling. That’s why I enjoy H.O.S.A.,” Newton-Jones said.
H.O.S.A. competes in various medical related events. Last year, the organization made it to a state level competition and they hope to do better this year.
Members of H.O.S.A. raise money for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, as well as the American Cancer Society. They are currently collecting donations for “Light The Night”, an annual event that is held in the hopes of raising awareness of cancer.
Anyone interested in joining H.O.S.A. is invited to their next meeting on Nov. 3 in Saber Hall Room 326 at 4:15 p.m.
