Recently, several Roosevelt students were asked what popular music they like. The responses each student gave shows the true diversity of listening preferences on campus.
“A lot of people are into Wiz Khalifa. I don’t personally mind it but it’s not what I’d listen to if I was alone and bored,” Edna Echuan, senior, said.
Then there’s Lil Wayne and Big Shaun. It seems that every student listens to some form for rap music or they might like that new Adell song, “Someone Like You”. But not everyone likes rap or music that is constantly played on the radio, believe it or not.
“I think what’s in is techno, uptempo beats, and it’s not what I prefer but I can listen to it,” Dominique Kennedy, senior, said.
Techno is popular, and its offshoot “dubstep” is even more so. If you can dance to it, more than likely it tends to be popular among teens.
Senior Alyssa Henry is certainly not a big fan of pop music.
“A lot of scenester bands are popular. I try to stay away from the mainstream because it tends to be overrated…it all sounds the same. Lady Gaga is good though,” Henry said.
