Coach Mary Phillips is a health teacher at Roosevelt High School who was born in Maryland and raised in San Antonio. Her hero growing up was Team USA Soccer Gold Medalist Mia Hamm.
Coach Phillips’s hero is perfectly suited for her personality because she loves soccer and coaches it. Her favorite tv show growing up was Home Improvement, a show that starred comedian Tim Allen that was popular in the 1990s.
Coach Phillips graduated from Clark High School and the went on to fullfill her dream in attending college at Texas A&M University in College Station.
“I always wanted to become a teacher and change lives in a positive way,” Phillips said.
Before she began her teaching career at Roosevelt, Coach Phillips was a kindergarten teacher. She has witnessed a lot of things happen in classrooms and has no regrets about choosing education as a way to make a positive impact on others. Students enjoy having her as a teacher and say they learn a lot about health in her class.
“Ms. Phillips is a nice lady and a good teacher. She will actually help you learn it and help you one on one,” Lance Sucre, junior, said.
Also, even students that don’t have her as a teacher say she is a good great nice person.
Coach Phillips makes a great first impression on people in general. She is a nice person who people enjoy talking to.
“She’s a nice lady and my friends say she is a good teacher,” Oscar Gonzales, junior, said.
In conclusion, from talking to several people on campus one will quickly find out that Coach Phillips is a popular and interesting teacher and coach.
