Most students would describe Coach Mary Phillips as a very nice health class teacher at Roosevelt High School. Phillips can also be seen on the sidelines coaching two sports she enjoys a lot: soccer and track.
Phillips, born in Maryland, grew up in San Antonio and attended Clark High School. After finishing high school, she fullfilled her dream by attending and receiving a bachelor degree in Kinesiology from Texas A&M.
Phillips’ childhood hero growing up is Mia Hamm, once a member of Team USA’s girls soccer team and gold medalist.
“Mia Hamm is my hero because I love soccer so much,” Phillips said.
Phillips’ favorite show growing up was Home Improvement with comedian Tim Allen and her pet peeves are bad drivers.
“I spend a lot of time on the highway and like to see people pay attention on the road and drive their cars the right way,” Phillips said.
Like many teachers that admire places with a great amount of culture and tradition, Phillips hopes to travel to the city of Paris someday soon.
