The annual “Backyard Brawl” is back. On Saturday night, Roosevelt will face off against the undefeated Converse Judson Rockets, one of the top teams in the San Antonio area, at Heroes Stadium. Kickoff set for 7 p.m.
The Roosevelt-Judson game will be the game of the night to watch in the San Antonio area. Judson has won their first two games with top running back Quaylon Jones leading them. Roosevelt is off to a rough start; the Rough Riders could have easily been 2-0 but lost two games against Stevens and Warren. A win against Judson would give Roosevelt a confidence boost and get the team back on track.
Since Judson is a solid offensive team, especially rushing the ball, Roosevelt top defender Ishmael Moore explained what the Roosevelt game plan is defensively.
“Put alot of people in the box so when they run the ball, they won’t get too far, basically Judson doesn’t throw the ball so when they do throw the ball we will be ready”, Ishmael Moore, senior, said.
Roosevelt’s defense should decide who wins the game because Judson has an explosive running back who has seven touchdowns on the season so far. Roosevelt also has a solid backfield with running back who rushed over 60 yards.
Roosevelt running back explained plan on offense, he explained ho Judson’s linemen jump offsides a lot.
“I plan to control Judson’s defense, to get them offsides they have this one player who jumps offsides a lot.” Kelvin Taylor, junior, said.
Roosevelt players feel they need to win this game to send a message and to help turn their season around. Roosevelt has lost by 10 or less in both games they have played so far. The Rough Riders didn’t capatalize on some past offensive opportunities, but they look forward to the Judson game like a team should.
A win for the Rough Riders will be big and they’re fans on campus believe they will bounce back with a win over the top-ranked team in San Antonio at the moment. A win would give that confidence and put the guys in red, white, and blue uniforms back on track.
“We beat Judson we will bounce back and be on on a good roll” Ishmael Moore, senior, said.
In conclusion, Roosevelt could have been 2-0 going in to the matchup with the Rockets, but they had two tough losses and know they can boost morale with a win against their arch-rival. The Rough Riders don’t want this game to slip away from them and Judson wants to stay undefeated. This game will be a good one for fans of both teams to watch.
