She throws her heavy backpack and books in the back seat of her mom’s car and falls into the front seat. After deeply inhaling and exhaling, she closes her eyes and turns up the volume on her iPod.
For the last three years, Victoria Albright has successfully overcome obstacles in her path and continues to do so. With her determination, commitment and help from friends, family and teachers, she is on her way to complete success. With the next four years ahead of her, she is sure and positive, absolute and ready to achieve her dreams.
“My career goal is to become a chef and a fashion designer. An engineer is my backup, just in case the first two don’t work out,” Victoria Alright, freshman, said.
Alright has had her mind decided for as long as she can remember on what she wants and what she has to do. Her grandmother also has a grandmother who inspired her to become a chef because of all the times of cooking and baking with her as a younger girl. The other two, however, became a dream of hers on her own as she began thinking about her future.
“All three are very creative, outgoing, fun and it’s something I can put my feelings into. They’re all goals I can be successful with,” Albright said.
Two ways Albright has done to make herself prepared for all three goals is by attending magnet schools for her middle and high school years. She attended iMAK (Interactive Media Applications at Krueger) at W. Krueger Middle School and applied and was accepted to D.A.T.A. (Design and Techonology Academy) at Theodore Roosevelt High School.
“I like a challenge and I thought iMAK and D.A.T.A. were a challenge that I wanted to take on and accomplish,” Albright said. “They also help me out a lot with all the new technology.”
With many schools to choose from to help Albright succeed in being a chef, a fashion designer or an engineer, she only picked one place to attend for high school, without a single doubt in her mind.
“I wasn’t interested in any other schools, I was dead set on Roosevelt,” Albright said.
Now a D.A.T.A. freshman at Roosevelt, Albright takes on the daily high school schedule and continues to work harder and harder towards her goals. She looks forward to the rest of the semester as well as the next four years ahead of her.
“I just go to school, be myself, not give into peer pressure and do my work,” Albright said.
Albright’s ways of going towards her future not only involves hard work and serious dedication, but also some fun with friends and other activities outside of school to get away from being a student.
“I love having fun with my friends from school, church and when I play sports on my free time,” Albright said. “Listening to my music is also one of my favorite things to do when I’m just relaxing in my room.”
