Members of Roosevelt High School’s various clubs and organizations were introduced to the community at the annual Red, White, and Blue Spirit Celebration on August 25.
Students from each club on campus braved the hot weather and walked a quarter mile around the Roosevelt track with lots of smiles and high fives.
Onlooking members of the community cheered as the procession of students, teachers, and administrators walked and took their place on the sports practice field led by the roaring sound of a canon supplied courtesy of Roosevelt’s R.O.T.C.
The crowd was initially excited as Marshall Smith, Roosevelt Band Director, led his group of band students onto the field first. The band students were followed immediately by members of Roosevelt’s spirit squads and then members of each club and organization began their walk.
Each club and organization eventually had the opportunity to run through a tunnel of high fives from teachers and administrators before exiting the celebration.
Students and members of the crowd participated in face painting and various other forms of fundraising such as selling refreshments. Crowds sitting in the stands prepared for the hot temperatures during the event with umbrellas and water bottles to keep cool.
Teachers described the event as the jumpstart to a solid and productive school year.
