Are You Ready?
The time has come for students to show what they are made of. TAKS testing began April 25 and continues for four days. For students who are taking the TAKS test, there are many ways to further prepare whether they are at school or at home.
During school, teachers are using every minute of class time going over every problem possible to make sure students are confident in their ability to do well on TAKS. Students can also go to TAKS tutoring after school and TAKS Saturdays, where students can play games, win prizes and have fun while preparing for the tests. When at school, every moment is an opportunity to pass TAKS.
Being at home is also a great time for students to recap everything about TAKS. The best thing to do is create an effective study plan. Plan out each subject so each one has the adequate amount of study time needed. For any subject that seems the hardest or gives the most trouble, spend extra time on that subject until it is understood better. Be sure to read any type of notes teachers have passed out in class.
Scent is the strongest trigger for memory. Students should study with a strong scent around them. Candy is the best way to use scent as a memory trigger. While studying, students should eat candy with a strong scent like peppermint, lemon drops, or bubble gum. If students choose to use this method, they should bring the same candy on test day. This will make the test simple and sweet. Studying is the best way to pass any test and is a major advantage when taking TAKS.
After all the studying students can usually find themselves looking for food to eat. Eating dinner is an important ingredient to test taking. Students should try to eat complex carbohydrates with good fats in them like lasagna and enchiladas. Adding whole grains to the meal is also a great idea for test takers.
When it comes to bed time, students should try to get at least eight hours of sleep. This usually works best three to four days in advance to the first test. Over the three day weekend, students should start the regiment so they can be completely rested. Not to mention, when the body is fully rested it tends to perform better.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day, so it is a must have on TAKS days. Although students need to understand that they should not eat a very heavy breakfast because it can cause them to feel sluggish and tired. The best breakfast for students are fats and protein. Peanut butter is a students best friend. The fat and protein found in peanut butter is the perfect combination for students having to take tests. A breakfast that consists of peanut butter toast or peanut butter and honey toast is the perfect morning meal.
Taking the TAKS tests can be very stressful and can sometimes feel unbearable, but if students study, eat right and get plenty of rest there is no doubt that they will dominate the TAKS and continue to make Roosevelt a recognized campus.
