After being trapped underground for 50 plus days, Chilean miners finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. On August 5th tons of rocks collapsed causing the miners to become trapped and it wasn’t until 17 days later on August 22nd that rescue workers found out that the miners were alive. For 69 days they were trapped while rescue workers rushed to come up with a plan. The original plan would of gotten the drillers out in late November, early December, but due to their drilling equipment, the process was a lot faster then expected. Starting late Tuesday night, a capsule was lowered into the mine and one by one the miners were strapped into the 28 inch wide capsule and then traveled 2,000 feet to the top. A liquid diet and aspirin fixed any problems the miners would have had with the constant spinning in the capsule. Each ride took about 20 minutes. The first miner to get out and each one after him were greeted by family and the Chilean president, and then sent straight to the hospital. Only one of the 33 miners is still in the hospital treating a dental infection. With million dollar offers on the table , the remaining miners aren’t keeping the original promise they each made to each other about making money off their stories. With families to feed, it’s only a matter of time that the stories of what happened underground will be told.
