Humans are fascinated by animals. People go on safaris, whale-watching cruises, and visit the local zoo with their families. Most would agree that animals are cute and fun to watch, but did it ever occur to them that the place the animals have as a home might actually be more like a prison to them.
“Animals should be free in the wild, not confined in a cage,” Ruth Hafez, freshmen, said.
The thought of being stuck in a cage for nearly your whole life doesn’t sound too peachy, does it? Not at all.
“Bad, because animals are treated horribly before and after public viewing hours. They’re trapped,” Audrey Rocha, freshmen, said.
The animal protection organization, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals, believes and promotes the idea that animals are truly not at ease or happy in zoos. PETA has staged protests in front of zoos in recent years, trying to state their case to the general public.
Freshmen Sara McCandless disagrees with PETA’s anti-zoo message.
“I think what zoos do for animals is good, because they help injured and endangered animals,” McCandless said.
In some cases zoos are a positive thing for animals that are endangered. But maybe they could be like rehabilitation centers, and keep the animals safe for a certain amount of time then let them go into the wild which is their true homes.
