Through female empowerment and good storytelling, Captain Marvel not only dominated the box office but dominated the hearts of Marvel fans who were anticipating the film.
The film premiered March 8, and features Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/ Captain Marvel, Samual L. Jackson as his regular character, Nick Fury, and multiple other cast members. It’s currently ranked #1 in the box office and has accumulated over $1 billion in ticket sales.
“Captain Marvel” takes place in 1995, before the majority of the previously released Marvel films. It follows the story of Carol Danvers, a Kree warrior that feels as though she’s previously lived another life on earth as a US Air Force Pilot. However, with the help of Nick Fury, she uncovers things about her old life, her powers, and the woman that was responsible for all of it.
As a woman, I felt empowered while watching the movie. Marvel is notorious for having men dominate the “Marvel Universe” and to have a woman frontline a movie, I feel as though they’re finally breaking out of their stereotype and embracing woman to be strong, leading characters. I appreciate the flow of the movie and how each character impacted the movie in some way. I wouldn’t advise anyone to not see this movie, it’s worth the watch.
