This year Roosevelt Theatre Company will be performing the play “Tom Jones” Oct. 26-28 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
“It is a British comedy from like the late 1700s which I know sounds really boring, but it’s not,” director Chad Thompson said. “It’s a farce which means it’s kinda wild unrealistic comedy with a lot of mistaken identities. They use of a lot of doors coming in and out, missing each other and that kind of comedy.”
The play is about Tom Jones who doesn’t know who his father is. He’s in love with a girl and he travels throughout England to find her and marry her and it’s about all his adventures along the way.
The play “Tom Jones” was first published February 28, 1749.
“It’s a well-known play for people in theatre and we actually did it a number of years ago for UIL one act play and I just really like the script,” Thompson said. “It’s a farce comedy for our first show for this year so that’s why we picked it.”

Senior Mark Flores Gallardo who has been in theatre for four years and for the past two years been in varsity theatre will be acting as Thwackum, a disciplinary man, and also an Irishman named Fitz Patrick.
“The play is really fun,” Gallardo said. “I feel people should come to this play because it gives you a sense of like old timey farce comedy that you may sometimes not fully understand but it’s nice to know that you can relate to something that may have been written a long time ago.”
The RTC typically has four-five productions per year, and many successful runs in UIL over the years.
“I think people can trust that when we put on a play that the quality will be good and this one will be really good also,” Thompson said.
The play is $7 for adults, $5 for students and $3 for children under 12.
