Gene Strehle has worked for Roosevelt for the last 14 years, teaching Geometry and influencing students to work hard. Before his teaching career, Strehle served in the United States Air Force for 26 years.
Originally a Geometry teacher, he now oversees the Achieve program, helping students get the credit for classes they’ve previously struggled in.
“[It was a] big change,” said Strehle. “I’m not so interactive with the kids, the students.”
Now that Mr. Strehle is medically retiring, he unfortunately has to say goodbye to his career here at Roosevelt.
“[I’m feeling] apprehensive and emotional about all of it.” said Strehle. “It’s because I’ll miss the students.”
As the date of his departure gets closer, the news is spreading quickly among the students and the staff.
“[Mr. Strehle] is a pretty nice guy. I look up him.” said Ty Lancaster, a senior. “He has a way with students.”
“I’m very jealous that he gets to enjoy life without students, but I know that it’s going to be difficult for him because he loves his job,” said Jamie Rich, an Assistant Principal. “He loves Roosevelt High School, and he loves his kids. It’s kind of a bittersweet moment.”
Friday, Sept. 29 is Strehle’s last day.
